From the Foreword by don Miguel Ruiz

The New Agreements in the Workplace will touch your heart. If you are ready for the next step in your workplace, this book holds the energy to start your journey. Read the words in this book with an open heart, and see if you begin to feel the release of your creative human spirit. The journey to mastery in the workplace may begin with the wisdom in these pages, and I highly recommend that you put into action the principles in this book to begin your own transformation at work and at home.

From the Introduction

The New Agreements in the Workplace offers a process that integrates personal growth and personal freedom with a method of management based upon systems thinking and reexamining obsolete agreements and habits that are taken for granted in the workplace. In this book, you'll be introduced to systems theory and you'll learn the five simple agreements that produce both joyful employees and successful organizations. You'll also discover a revolutionary idea that focuses on something seldom seen but desperately needed in the modern workplace: love.

From Chapter 1: Today's Changing Workplace

Everything is created twice: first in the mind, then in the physical domain. What if we could clearly envision our organizations as centers of enterprise and learning where people became healthy physically, emotionally, and spiritually? What if our dreams included powerful energy fields of love that would radiate from our people to each other, including our customers, clients, suppliers, stockholders, families, and community? What if we could become a living model for the full and human potential of work? In the pages that follow, you will learn about five simple agreements. Keeping these agreements with yourself in your personal and professional life will ensure your place as one of the new leaders in today's changing workplace. If you're ready to begin, then turn the page and let's discover the New Agreements in the Workplace: 1. Find Your Path 2. Love, Grow, and Serve Your People 3. Mind Your Mind in the Moment 4. Shift Your Systems 5. Practice a Little Every Day

From Chapter 3: Love, Grow and Serve Your People

Gramps took my arm, pulled me to his chest and walked me the rest of the way to shallow water. He held my hand while I remained bent over in knee-deep water trying to catch my breath. Finally, he kneeled down and looked up at me. Wiping the tears from his eyes he said, "I knew you could do it. Now you know you can do it, too. No matter what happens, no matter how hard it is, you can always make it if you don't give up." Looking back, I think letting me struggle like that might have been one of the most difficult things my grandfather ever did for me. I think he was scared. He was very quiet the rest of the day and made it a point to put his arm around me more than usual. What does all this have to do with loving, growing, and serving your people? Everything, actually. Loving, growing, and serving others is an act of loving leadership. Leadership was the relationship my grandfather had with me. I would have followed him anywhere, done anything for him, and always with a smile on my face.

From Chapter 5 - Shift Your Systems

Personal transformation is a wonderful thing, but transforming the workplace requires more: You must consider the systems in the workplace as well. To create the successful and supportive environments we've been discussing, you must look not only at transforming the people within those environments, you must also look at enhancing their personal freedom, releasing the human spirit in the workplace, and transforming fear-based systems into love-based ones. If you want to change the results created in your workplace, you have to shift your systems.

From Chapter 7 - The New Leaders

When the leader holds the energy of love or Intent for the group, others begin to feel their own essence, which is, of course, love. As more people feel their essence, the energy field increases. It's a little like making a batch of popcorn. At first nothing appears to be happening. Then, the popping starts off very slowly. But as more energy is added to environment, the popping becomes more and more rapid with each popped kernel adding to the "fulfillment" of the container. Finally, with a rich energy field of love in full bloom, the real work of the group begins. Interestingly, it's the energy that does the transformational work with no effort necessary on the part of the group members.

The Feminine and Creativity

It's not surprising that many organizations today struggle to remain creative in the face of a turbulent, fast-changing world. Often, we tend to search for creativity outside ourselves or, if we do look inside, we rely on the Masculine Mind to provide new thoughts. But new thoughts are not the womb of creativity. Creativity is birthed through intuition.

Chapter 8 - A New Kind of Vision

The time is now. We have this wonderful opportunity to support each other, learn these tools, work together, and love with every cell of our being. By doing so, by doing the work that makes our hearts sing in perfect harmony with each other and the stars, we can produce the miraculous transformations that will result in a new workplace and a new world in our lifetimes. We can. We will. It's time.
